TXI’s goal is to be a good steward of the environment. In pursuing this objective, the Company has developed recycling technologies that allow it to be part of the solution to environmental problems and a good corporate neighbor wherever it has facilities.

The Company constantly seeks new ways to utilize innovative technologies in its environmental protection programs. It has found ways to use recycled tires, concrete, waste fuels and water in its manufacturing process. TXI Energy Services even works with the oil and gas industry to help with their recycling efforts.

TXI has also developed a process that significantly reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in the cement-making kiln process.

In 1999, the Environmental Protection Agency recognized TXI’s positive efforts by awarding it the prestigious U.S. EPA Climate Protection Award, and in September 2010, the Midlothian Cement Plant was awarded the Energy Star® certification.

Environmentally sound mining for us means leaving the area in a safe, non-polluting condition while preserving the land’s value to the furthest extent possible.

As a result of strategic planning, we’re able to identify areas that will require fill and place reclamation materials. However, not all reclamation projects require the same solution. Some simply call for slope stabilization while others may require steps to restore wildlife habits or preparation of the land for residential construction. Planning ahead with an end use in mind allows us to direct our mining activities toward the planned reclamation objectives.
